Upon leaving the 1787 constitutional convention, Benjamin Franklin is reported to have said to a passerby who asked what kind of government they had formed: “a republic, if you can keep it.”It is up to us to promote and protect our rights and freedoms from the natural progression of an unsupervised government. To do this, we must understand how the government works, keep watch over it, and be engaged. How many of us know the names of the County Judge and all of the County Commissioners, your Mayor and all of the council members, the drainage district commissioners, the municipal utility district directors, municipal management district directors, emergency service district commissioners, hospital district directors, and so on down the line who represent you?Keeping up with all of this can be hard. We get it.Government answers to the people, but the people have very busy lives that don’t leave much time to attend all of the local meetings. The truth is, we don’t either. But we want to help, nonetheless.Felicia Harris Hoss, Heather Elaine Martin and Rhonda Michelle Seth are straight talking, Christian women, who have been active in Brazoria County politics, and who care about our freedoms, rights, this country – the Republic – and this county.Here, on Grace & Grit, we’ll talk frankly, laugh loudly, and work earnestly to help you and our local governmental officials do what’s best for our future.
