I could have never imagined that something as personal as music would be able to make people feel the same energy that I feel. Music is my way of expression, my way of clearing my thoughts and my way of giving in to my emotions. The fact that something that personal can inspire others touches and affects me deeply.” That sums it up for Koh Phangan-based producer / DJ Steffie Ditzel. What started out as a means of time killing grew into a pleasing way of pleasing others. Feeling perfectly comfortable behind the decks and luring party-goers with her disarmingly endearing smile and positive energy, Steffie invites you on a journey driven by her personal experiences and emotions. That journey began in 2009, when Steffie began making her own electronic music. She credits an abundance of free time growing up in rural Holland with creating the right environment to start making music: “When I was about eleven years of age, I started recording the infamous Radio538 Dance Department shows that aired every Saturday. Staying up all night to listen to those sounds that appealed to me and playing them out loud over and over until my father unplugged my electricity was my first little get-together with electronic music.’ And the love just took off from there. Steffie took her first courageous leap when she moved to the city of Utrecht--a move that opened up a world of possibilities for her personally and professionally, and furnished a collection of stages to let her music be heard. She played during those first, reckless years in the best clubs of Holland such as Sugar Factory – Undercurrent – Panama– Club Poema – Club Up – Studio 80– Paradigm– Luxor – Doornroosje – Odion – Simplon – Factory010– Club La Mer – Soenda Festival– Mystic Garden Festival – Ultrasonic Festival– Paradigm Festival – Vunzige Deuntjes Festival. In 2015, intuition and dedication to her music led her to Koh Phangan, a tropical island and burgeoning underground dance music hotbed, in the Gulf of Thailand. Phangan offered Steffie unparalleled freedom, personally and musically. After starting with her first gig at the famous Waterfall Party, Steffie found her stride and her niche during her first residency at the Fifth Element, a weekly day-time after party overlooking the iconic Haad Rin beach. She slowly but surely started to create a name for herself and landed gigs at Eden Garden, Jungle Experience, Loi Lay, Lost Paradise, Lighthouse, Maya, Oxa Beach, Samsara, and 360 Roof top bar. She has now established herself as one of the most recognized and talented DJ on the island. A crucial breakthrough in her DJ career came with the residence she took up at the weekly idyllic beach day party at Peace & Love, an island favorite packed with tourists and local party-goers. “I never felt so much energy in my life,” Steffie says of her residency there. The crowd is constantly reflecting back the love and beauty I want to project and the location on a tropical beach is astonishing and unique. I never had that experience before. Focused and motivated to make the most out of every gig, always working to stir her crowd, down to earth and always following the path she set out for herself, Steffie Ditzel is a fine example of just how far the motto ‘work hard, play hard’ can bring a person. Her music is full of passion and exuberance, a sincere expression of the person inside.
